You get a built-in electronic compass that gives you your bearings even if you are standing still. The barometric altimeter can pinpoint your exact altitude and you can use this to plot the barometric pressure over time so that you can keep an eye on the weather.
With the microSD card slot, you can insert a MapSource card with detailed street maps and you will get turn by turn directions to your destination. With a BlueChart g2 card, you will get water depths, harbors and navaids. The card slot is inside the waterproof battery compartment.
