Garmin has done it again and has made the perfect fixed mount GPS unit for boats under 30 feet with the release of the new GPSMAP 545.

The 545 sports an an ultra-bright color 5 inch diagonal VGA display that has a 640 x 480 resolution. The display will automatically dim for easy readability in changing light conditions, so it is just as easy to read in bright sunlight as it is in the dimmest of conditions.

The GPS 545 comes with a practical built-in GPS antenna to precisely show your position on Garmin's latest G2 chart detail and built-in satellite imagery for coastal United States, Alaska, Hawaii and the Bahamas. This information will include coastlines, shaded depth contours, port plans, navaids wrecks, restricted areas and tides.

The GPSMAP 545 is compatible with the optional Bluechart G2 Vision Cards. With this option in place you will be able to see â??real worldâ? photos of ports, harbors, marinas, waterways, navigational landmarks and other points of interest. The G2 Vision card also allows you to view 3D perspectives above and below the waterline. Another new feature the Garmin GPSMAP 545 boasts is called Auto Guidance technology. This feature helps the user navigate with the best possible route.

The 530 also comes with audible alarms for anchor drag, arrival to a destination, 10 proximity waypoints, off-course, and clock as well as low battery voltage.

The Garmin 545 also comes equipped with lots memory for waypoints and tracks and can store up to 3,000 waypoints with name and graphical symbols and 10,000 track log points. There is room to save 15 tracks with 750 points each. The 545 can store 50 of your routes with them being reversible with up to 300 per route.

Other features the 545 has are built in tide and celestial data and back up of user data on a data card. The 530's housing is waterproof and sturdy to withstand the elements.
